Perturbed

I understand that everyone has to make a living. We all have different talents and therefore we are lead to different occupations. What I have a hard time with is when people make money off of my MISFORTUNE. Again, I know everyone has to make money somehow. Let me explain.....

Our heater broke last week. (bummer #1). Both motors died and our home warranty refused to cover it because they claimed the contract was void due to lack of maintenance. (bummer #2) Who has their furnace cleaned every year? I am taking a poll so please let me know. This is the first winter in our home and everything was running smoothly...I had no reason to have it checked out before this. You can tell at this point I was very bothered.

What makes things more frustrating is that no one will give an estimate because everyone wants to come and see the unit for themselves and charge you a 'diagnostics fee' (bummer #3). I am really left with no choice but to go with my gut feeling and determine who will give us the best deal. Now, to the point of my post. When it comes to repair and service people I just have to trust that they are trying to make an honest living and will treat me fairly. Is that possible? Is it too much to ask? I still am skeptical and always feel like I am being scammed. So, I think my best bet is to hone my bargaining skills and see how low they will go! Wish me luck.

I hope you're not sitting in a cold house right now! That would not be fun or good. I'm with you on service/repair people. I never know who to trust or go with. Maybe that's why I never fix things at my house and they're always broken. Also, a bummer!

So frustrating! We got scammed on a sink problem awhile back and now I never want our sink fixed again!! If only I was handy...good luck!!

YUCK! That is the yucky part of owning. There are few drawbacks, but this is one. I would ask in your ward to see who has done this before and see what it should cost from someone else so you have an idea what it will cost. Then go with someone who has used that person before. I don't trust anyone anymore. Sadly. Good luck and see you soon!!!

I am so sorry your furnace issue got dragged out so long! I hope it is resolved by now and that you are once again warm and cozy.....and packing to come see me! I miss you!

Boy do I feel your pain. I had an oil change a while back & the mechanic told us we needed an engine flush. One month later my engine is dead because of it and we're out $5,000. I went back for another oil change with the other car and they had the nerve to tell me that it also needed an engine flush. Isn't anyone honest anymore? Sorry to hear about the heater. Hope you found someone good!

Nope don't get our furnace yearly. And I trust in your bargaining skills. . . I saw them in use at the NY parking garage and I was impressed.
