Potty Talk

I am a nurse.  In the field of nursing there are always a few 'classic moments' in my various jobs.  Yesterday I had one of those moments.  For some reason, people always feel free to open up to health care workers and even sometimes 'cross the line'.  I have been working in a Family Practice office and one aspect of my job is to call back patients with questions they have regarding medications and such.  These questions range from...am I safe from the Swine Flu?  I have a blister on my toe, what do I do?!

Yesterday I was speaking with an elderly woman regarding her medications.  As I felt the conversation was coming to a close she said, "I know you are a very busy woman but I have one more question?"......uh oh where was this going.  Here is the conversation that followed....

Patient:  What does a toilet bowl and a cemetery have in common?

Nurse Nancy:  (caught off guard by the question) I don't know.

Patient:  When you gotta go, you gotta go!

Nurse Nancy:  ha ha, that was a good one I will share that with the office.  (at this point i was thinking oh boy, how do I get off the phone with this very sweet lady that could probably tell jokes all day long and really just wants someone to talk to)

Patient:  Superman is the strongest man in the world right?

NN:  Yes for sure

Patient:  What is the strongest thing in the world?

NN:  No idea.

Patient:  Urine.  Because even Superman could not hold it back!

NN:  (I laugh once again)  Those are funny, thanks for sharing.  We will see you at your next appointment.  Have a great day!

***I think some elderly people are fixated on urine and potty humor.  Is that going to be me when I get older too?  Probably.***

I feel obligated to remind you that you instigated the famous "potty talk" newsletter at chipman hall freshman year. what a gloroius publication that was nance! and even though it wasn't really potty talk in nature...perhaps it was a sign of things to come when you are old. I bet for sure you will be the old lady telling potty jokes to the cool young nurse one day!
Love you!

Hey, you two, almost three! How come I have to search through my kids' blogs to find out what their friends are up to AND that one of my favorites is having his first baby son! How exciting for both of you! Arycca is due with her first baby girl August 5, then Ty and Shelley two weeks later. A grandma couldn't ask for more than that, except to live close by! Not going to happen for awhile, I have a hubby that wants to keep moving! Love you both! Where are you now, anyway? Momma B or Sis. Whip, now.
